Burning the Future: Coal in America
Filmmaker David Novack examines the explosive forces that have set in motion a groundswell of conflict between the coal industry and residents of the State of West Virginia. Confronted by an emerging coal-based US energy policy, local activists watch the nation praise coal without regard to the devastation caused by its extraction. Faced with toxic ground water, the obliteration of 1.4 million acres of mountains, and a government that appeases the industry, the people in the film demonstrate a strength of purpose and character in their improbable fight to arouse the nation's and the world's help in protecting their mountains, saving their families and preserving their way of life.
大卫・诺瓦克曾担任过多部纪录影片与电视纪录片系列的制片人、后期监制以及联合制片。他的影片《燃烧未来：美国的煤矿》，获得了由著名的国际纪录片联合会(IDA) 颁发的Pare Lorentz社会纪录片大奖、英国的号角奖、众多电影节奖项，以及环境新闻学会的深度电视报道第一名。诺瓦克先生也是一位成功的录音混音师和声效设计师，并在最近参与了著名摇滚音乐人Roger Waters新创作的一部歌剧。诺瓦克先生毕业于宾夕法尼亚大学，拥有该校的工程学学士学位，并取得了伯克利音乐学院的音乐学位。
David Novack has been a producer, post supervisor, and associate producer for a number of documentary films and television series. His film "Burning the Future: Coal in America" earned the prestigious IDA Pare Lorentz award for social documentary filmmaking, Britain's Clarion Award, numerous film festival prizes and the Society of Environmental Journalism's first place for in-depth television reporting. In audio post, Mr. Novack has enjoyed a successful career as a re-recording mixer/sound designer, recently adding a major new opera by Roger Waters to his credits. Mr. Novack received a Bachelors of Science in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania, and a degree in music from Berklee College of Music.
